geography

course

The Schondra rises from three sources in the Brückenau Kuppenrhön , north of the Schondra market in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen . After the union of the three source streams, north of Kissinger Straße , it crosses the village of the same name, Schondra. The Schondra continues underground between Bachstrasse and Raiffeisenstrasse . On the southern outskirts, it flows right past the Obere Bock-Mühle . Its main flow direction, which is oriented to the southwest, essentially retains it up to its confluence with the Franconian Saale . A second mill is located south of Schondra-Schönderling . Here it flows from the left side of the Helmersbach . Following the course of the deeply cut valley, the Schondra now increasingly meanders. To the south of Schondra- Untergeiersnest it is fed on the left by the temple ditch . At Schmittrain , it takes in the 7.5 km long Einraffshofer water , which comes from the north on the right side. There is also another mill there. After the inflow of the Einraffshofer water , the Schondra is now much wider. It flows south of Münchau past the Köpesmühle . It digs deeper and deeper into the valley, which is bordered by steep mountain slopes overgrown with deciduous forest. A little further south, it is strengthened by the Detterbach flowing towards it from the right . It flows right past the Hammelsbusch and Eggenhopf . South of the Querberg , it takes up the Finsterbuchgraben coming from the right . In a wild and romantic valley it now breaks through the ridge and flows right past the Finsterbuchhöhe and the Heckenberg . In the hamlet of Heckmühle (zu Wartmannsroth ) there is a mill of the same name. Shortly afterwards the Schondra is fed on its left by the almost 6 km long Sippach . It continues its course in a westerly direction and squeezes through a narrow valley between the large rocks of the Wildweibstein and the Mittelmühlbuch . There is a sewage treatment plant at Heiligkreuz (to Wartmannsroth ). There it flows from the right, the 7 km long Weißenbach coming from the north . She is now turning her direction more to the south. Your amount of water is strengthened by the Ammelbach , which flows in from the right side. The course of the Schondra is very close to nature and is not disturbed by any human settlement . After the Gegelsbach has flowed to it from the right , it crosses the Lower Schondratal nature reserve . It flows past the Külmersberg on the left and the sweet lawn on the right . Not far from it, it is fed by the moat on the left . Her course leads her southwards past the Haubenberg and south of the linden ridge the Hengstbach flows towards her from the right . At a paper mill, it encounters human habitation again for the first time in a long time. Shortly afterwards it is cleaned by a small sewage treatment plant and a little later the Barthelmühle follows . At the Lohmühle , the Schondra reaches the outskirts of Gräfendorf and after it has flowed past another mill, it crosses under the main road and finally flows south of a railway bridge into the Franconian Saale .
