polenmARkT is a festival for Polish culture held in Greifswald every November .

purpose

The festival aims to promote cultural exchange between the neighboring countries of Germany and Poland . The PolenmARkT has grown since it first took place in 1997 and offers Polish artists a stage for around 10 days a year. In addition to concerts, exhibitions, readings, theater performances and film screenings, other art forms are also represented. In addition to the Nordic sound, it is one of the cultural events in the Hanseatic city with reference to the neighboring states in eastern Germany.

The organization polenmARkT eV, founded in 1998, is in charge of organizing the event. It is supported by a changing group of organizers, as well as by the Hanseatic City of Greifswald , the University of Greifswald and its student body, the Sparkasse Vorpommern , the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg , the Koeppenhaus, the Pomeranian State Museum and the Fallada House.

The first Polish cultural evening took place in 1997 in the basement of Slavonic Studies, the Tschaika. In 1998 it was expanded to include the Polish Culture Week. The festival took place for the first time under the current name of PolenmARkT in 1999. The organizational team also received support from the future rector of the University, Hans-Robert Metelmann . The festival was held annually from 2000 to 2005.

In 2006, Andrzej Stasiuk , Fred Gebler, Michael Düring, Marcin Wołoszyn, Michał Majerski, Kamil Majchrzak, Andrzej Stach and Dietrich Schröder took part.

In 2007 the PolenmARkT celebrated its tenth anniversary. Olga Tokarczuk, Zygmunt Januszewski, Tobias Weger , Michael Majerski, Bartosz Wielinski, Gerhard Gnauck and Jan M. Piskorski took part.

The festival took place for the last time in 2008 under the direction of Christian Lübke. Participants included Stefan Chwin, Michael Majerski, Jan M. Piskorski, Paul Meyer, Krzysztof Zastawny, Aga Zaryan , Kinga and Karol Masternak.

In 2009 the motto of the polenMARkT was: “Poland and its neighbors”. This should open the festival towards Eastern and Western Europe and also emphasize Poland's role as a country with moving borders. The Sparkasse Vorpommern also awarded the 10th prize for services to German-Polish cooperation. Władysław Filipowiak was also honored with the “Pomerania Nostra” prize, which was awarded in connection with the festival. Natalia Sniadanko, Piotr Lachmann, Marcin and Bartłomiej Oleś, Hans Thill, Andrzej Kopacki, Matthias Kneip and Klaus Harer took part.

At the opening of the PolenmARkTes 2010 the ambassador of Poland Marek Prawda spoke . For the first time, events took place outside Greifswald, in Stralsund . The physician Tomasz Gredes was awarded the 11th Prize of the Sparkasse Vorpommern for his services to German-Polish cooperation.

In 2011, the jury of the "Pomerania Nostra" award awarded the PolenARkT its award, recognizing the commitment of the voluntary association members to conveying Polish culture. In 2012 the 15th anniversary could be celebrated.

After the former chairman, the Slavic studies professor Alexander Wöll, left Greifswald, the general assembly of the association in February 2015 elected Bernhard Brehmer, also a Slavic studies professor, as his successor.

In November 2017, the PolenmARkT festival received the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania cultural promotion award .
