Porsche 944 Turbo Cup France

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Porsche 944 Turbo Cup France was a French racing series that was held as a brand cup for Porsche 944 Turbos. The model for the championship was the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup held in Germany from 1986 to 1989 . The French counterpart started a year later, but remained in place until 1990. Then, as in the sister series, Porsche changed the vehicle to the Porsche 911 and the series also got a new name as the Porsche Carrera Cup France .

On April 20, 1987, the series made its debut on the Paul Armagnac Circuit with a victory for rally driver and eventual champion René Metge . Until 1990, it was driven exclusively on French racetracks, including the Formula 1 tracks at Magny-Cours and Dijon , but also, for example, on the Pau street circuit .

In addition to Metge, other well-known drivers such as Jean-Pierre Jaussaud , Jean-Louis Schlesser and Roland Asch celebrated race victories in this series over the past four years . The most successful driver, however, remained Michel Maisonneuve , who won 13 races from a total of 40 championship races and thus emerged as the winner of the series in 1989 and 1990.
