Location of Porten in Wuppertal

The location of Porten in the Westring residential area in the Vohwinkel district of Wuppertal goes back to an old court .

location

The Hofschaft is located in the far west of the district in the bottom of the Vohwinkeler Senke , north of the 'Vohwinkeler Straße'.

Neighboring locations are: Simonshöfchen , Krutscheid , Simonshaus , Zur Linden , Schrotzberg , Ölbers , and Bremkamp .

history

Up until the beginning of the 19th century, Porten, a small court, belonged to the Haan supreme court in the Bergisch Amt of Solingen .

The farm complex belonged to the parish of Haan and came to Vohwinkel in 1894 , which was united with Elberfeld and Barmen to Wuppertal in 1929.

On a map from 1824 the location is shown as' z. Port 'and in 1843 labeled as' Pforten'. An earlier attribution as 'zur Pforten', 'Portzen', and 'Portzgen' is also mentioned. On the topographic maps (TK25) from 1892/94 the location is then labeled as 'Porten'.

The route of the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld railway line was built between 1838 and 1841 by the Düsseldorf-Elberfelder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft directly on the northern edge of the village. Until about the end of the 19th century there was a smaller body of still water in this location. From 1907 the area was extended to the south and the now former Vohwinkel marshalling yard was created, part of the locality and the pond were razed.

To the south, around 500 meters away, there was a bathing establishment from the end of the 19th century until the 1960s, which was fed by the Bremkampbach .

After the Second World War , the DB Signalwerk Wuppertal was built south of Porten and north of Vohwinkeler Straße , which is one of the larger employers in the district with around 500 employees.

It is not known whether the historical structure of the gates has been preserved.
