The post office in tub is under preservation stationary monument . The office and administration building at "Wanner Strasse 23" at the corner of "Am Friedhof" was built between 1912 and 1914 according to a draft developed under the direction of the Secret Building Council and lecturer Councilor Wilhelm Walter in the building construction department of the Reich Post Office in Berlin .
history
The post office, which is kept in neoclassical style, corresponds to the reception building of the main train station, which is just 150 meters to the east and was built at the same time . Compared with photos from before the Second World War , the building was largely preserved. However, the roof turret and the imperial eagle in the gable field on the front side are no longer there . More recently, the portal, framed by Doric columns, was built into the post-typical yellow due to an unsuitable entrance installation.
The entry of the post office Wanne in the list of monuments of the city of Herne took place on June 29, 2005 (monument no. A 687).
architecture
The two-storey building, which ends with a high hipped roof , consists of two unequal wings that are brought together at the intersection of “Wanner Straße” and “Am Friedhof” by a main portal with three axes . The corners are framed by two three-storey round bay windows . The wing on “Wanner Straße” has eleven axes with a length of 37.5 meters, while the “Am Friedhof” wing, which is about half as long, has five axes. The fifth axis was designed as a gabled risalit for structuring. According to the building description on which the building application is based, " Anröchter sandstone for the base , Ibbenbürener sandstone for the portal and imperial eagle (gable field) , noble plaster ( Terranova or a similar material) for the street view, lime cement plaster for the courtyard views , clay pans for the roof Corner towers and roof turrets copper ”used.
Parcel post and telegraph office
In 1932 the post office was extended to the east, in the direction of the Wanne-Eickel main station, by a three-storey building in the style of brick expressionism, 54 meters long (Wanner Straße 25; location ). The draft for this parcel post and telegraph office, to which a wagon hall also belongs to the rear , was drawn up by the post office building officer Karl Lachmann at the Oberpostdirektion Dortmund . The building, which only had a three-axis spatial depth, was divided into three parts. The transition from the old post office building was made by a two-storey insert from an axis. This was closed at the top by a flat roof and originally included the side entrance. This is followed by a wing of eleven axes. The top, slightly set back storey is emphasized by a cornice and covered by a hipped roof. An approximately cube-shaped corner building with three by three axes forms the end. This component has four storeys including a recessed and architecturally not further developed stacked storey. A triangular bay rises above the main entrance, which is now walled up, in the area of the first and second floors. The transmission antennas of the telecommunications office were later located on the mezzanine floor.
