Potępa (German Potempa ) is a place in Poland . It belongs to the municipality of Krupski Młyn in the Powiat Tarnogórski , Silesian Voivodeship in historic Upper Silesia .

history

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 93 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 275 for Poland. In 1933 there were 820 inhabitants in Potempa.

In Potempa, five uniformed SA men murdered the communist Konrad Pietrzuch on the night of August 9-10, 1932. The Potempa murderers were initially sentenced to death , but after a show of solidarity from Hitler , they were commuted to life imprisonment eleven days later. The perpetrators were finally released by the Hitler government on March 2, 1933.

On February 12, 1936, the place was renamed Wüstenrode. In 1939 there were 863 inhabitants in Wüstenrode.

In 1945 the previously German town in the Tost-Gleiwitz district came under Polish administration and was renamed Potępa and joined the Silesian Voivodeship.

1951 Potępa was incorporated together with the municipality Tworóg in the powiat Tarnogórski.

On November 29, 1972 the municipality of Krupski Młyn was founded. In addition to Potępa, this included the places Krupski Młyn, Ziętek, Żyłka, Kanol and Odmuchów. On January 25, 1977 the parish was dissolved again and the place came back to the municipality of Tworóg.

On May 25, 1991 the municipality of Krupski Młyn was re-established and Potępa was again assigned to the municipality of Krupski Młyn. In 1999 the place came to the re-established powiat Tarnogórski .
