Potzwenden

Potzwenden is a district of the southern Lower Saxony municipality of Landolfshausen in the district of Göttingen . The small village, with only around 50 inhabitants, has been the location of the district's Potzwenden fire department since 1973 . On the 6  hectare site, youth fire brigades from all over Lower Saxony hold tent camps and free time.

history

Little is known about the beginnings of Potzwenden. The first written mention from the year 1293 as Pustockwenede is only preserved in a copy from the 20th century, the next written mention comes from 1352 as Postockesiegen . During the Thirty Years' War the village was abandoned, and by the beginning of the 18th century at the latest, Potzwenden was inhabited again. Even before the Thirty Years War to Potzwenden for a certain period without form, have been lying there on December 6, 1568 Duke Wolfgang von Grubenhagen the noblemen Dietrich von Plesse among others, a deserted village Potzwenden as a fief transfers. In line with this transfer, the entry on Potzwenden can be found in the Plessian Lehnsrevers from 1568. However , it is unlikely that the place, similar to Falkenhagen, was in a desolate position and was rejected by Georg Max with reference to a linguistic mistake. It is more likely that the village was temporarily desolate in earlier times, around the middle and towards the end of the 15th century, so it is documented for the years 1453 and 1490 that Potzwenden was a desert at that time and was only repopulated in 1538.

In the 19th century, under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Westphalia , Potzwenden was assigned to the Leine department and the Lutheran village was subordinated to the canton of Radolfshausen, which was subordinate to the Göttingen district . At that time the place had 60 inhabitants, who were spread over 9 houses. The further development of the population remained stable in the following decades, so around the middle of the 19th century there were 57 inhabitants in Potzwenden, which was now part of the Principality of Grubenhagen and was incorporated into the Radolfshausen district. There it functioned, together with the Radolfshausen domain in the domain association.

On January 1, 1973 Potzwenden was incorporated into the Landolfshausen community.
