history

The seven musicians got to know each other at the music of the guard at the Austrian Armed Forces and played there with many other conscripts at state receptions and other events. They were also involved in the military big band and in the jazz combo of the Guard Music. During their free time in the barracks, they used the local rehearsal room to start their own band.

Powerkryner achieved fame through a music video for the cover version Stolen Dance ( Milky Chance ) and the second video Break My Stride . The latter video is an own interpretation of motifs from the music video Space Taxi from the film (T) Raumschiff Surprise . Both videos received several thousand clicks within the first few days. The organizers of the Wiener Wiesn-Fest then invited the musicians to the Wiener Wiesn Fest Music Award , which they won with the English-Austrian title Stomp & Shout , and played in the large festival tent on the Kaiserwiese. After they had finished their military service, the Powerkryner started a collaboration with the music producers Martin Neumayer and Claudius Vlasak . They began to record their songs in recording studios and work with studio teams from Munich , Vienna and New York.

In 2015 the band was invited to the EuroWiesn Night in the Belvedere Palace in Vienna as part of the Eurovision Song Contest . There they were allowed to provide musical entertainment for around 2000 guests from 40 countries. They also performed on the Woodstock of Brass Music . The band then signed with the major label Warner Music . December 2015 her single Ham kummst (When you come home one more time) was released , a cover version of the band Seiler and Speer . For the dance floor version they worked with DJ Selecta . The accompanying music video went viral and reached 1.5 million clicks on YouTube (as of February 2016). The song became an après-ski hit and the group's first chart success. The single reached number 29 in the Austrian single charts.

style

According to their own statements, the Powerkryner want to combine international pop music with the tradition of their homeland and the original sound of Austrian instruments. The texts are mainly written in the Austrian dialect , but occasionally also in English. Stylistically, it is an intersection of traditional Austrian folk music, especially from Oberkrainer folklore mixed with elements of ska and the dance floor .
