Stolen Dance ( english "Stolen Dance") is a song of the German Folk - Pop - duo Milky Chance . The track is the first single from their debut album Sadnecessary .

Creation and artwork

The song was written and produced jointly by the two Milky Chance members Philipp Dausch and Clemens Rehbein. The song was released under the music labels Ignition, Lichtdicht, Neon, Opaque and Republic. To Stolen Dance are two different black-and-white cover art. The first one shows Dausch and Rehbein sitting on a sofa next to the artist name and the song title . On the second you can see both of them standing in a small side street. The cover picture on the sofa was shot by David Ulrich.

Publication and promotion

The first publication of Stolen Dance took place on April 5, 2013 as a download single in Germany. First, a physical sound carrier was released for promotional purposes on November 11, 2013 in Germany. The physical single was officially released on December 13, 2013 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . It was a release as a 2-track single and 12 "vinyl record , which contains an album and radio version of the song. On February 10, 2014, a maxi single was released in the DA-CH countries . This contains, besides the album and radio version, two other remixes by Stolen Dance . To shorten the waiting time in the United States for the debut album Sadnecessary , an EP by Stolen Dance was released on May 9, 2014 .

In May 2013, Milky Chance was voted “ recordJet Passenger of the Month” by an independent jury of music journalists and received a free basic doctorate as part of this award. In addition to countless appearances at music festivals and on the radio , live appearances in the television programs Living Room by Joiz Germany and in the launch pad of Bayerischer Rundfunk followed for further promotion . On October 23, 2014, Milky Chance's Stolen Dance was the first German music act to perform live on the US late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! .

Music video

To Stolen Dance are two official music videos. The first premiered on April 4, 2013 on Milky Chance's YouTube account. You can see Rehbein, who is sitting on a chair in front of a white wall and playing an acoustic guitar . During the entire video, various video excerpts of people and images of nature are projected onto Rehbein and the wall. The total length of the video is 5:13 minutes. Directed by Jana and Stefan Cantante. In June 2018, the video received almost 400 million views on YouTube, making it Milky Chance's most-watched music video on YouTube. In a second music video, Milky Chance travels through the Netherlands in an old VW bus .

On December 5th, 2013 Stolen Dance was awarded a 1Live crown in the category "Best Single".

Charts and chart placements

Stolen Dance reached position two in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for a total of 13 weeks and in the charts for 60 weeks. In Austria the single reached the top position and was able to stay at position one for a week, ten weeks in the top 10 and 28 weeks in the charts. In Switzerland, the single also reached position one and was able to stay at the top of the chart for four weeks, 14 weeks in the top 10 and 60 weeks in the charts. In the United Kingdom the single reached position 24 in 17 chart weeks and in the United States position 39 in 25 chart weeks. Stolen Dance was placed in the German annual charts of 2013 on position 27, in Austria on number 52 and in Switzerland on position 75. In the annual single charts of 2014 the single was placed in Germany on position 47, in Austria on position 41 and in Switzerland in position eight.

Furthermore, the single reached position one in the following countries: Belgium (Wallonia) , France , Ireland , Poland and the Czech Republic .

For Milky Chance this is the first chart success worldwide. In Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, no single by Milky Chance has been able to place higher or longer in the charts.
