The magnificent primrose ( Primula spectabilis ) is a species of plant that belongs to the genus of primroses ( Primula ).

description

The herbaceous perennial plant reaches heights of growth of up to 20 centimeters. She looks bald; The leaves and calyx are covered with very small, colorless glandular hairs. The basal leaves are curled up against the upper side when they are young, thick, shiny, lanceolate to ovate, with entire margins and a white cartilage edge.

There are two to seven flowers on stems 5 to 15 millimeters long on golden inflorescences . The bracts are linear and usually shorter than the flower stalks. The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers have a diameter of 20 to 30 millimeters. The tubular-funnel-shaped, reddish overflowing calyx has short calyx lobes and is shorter than the corolla tube. The crown is pink to purple-red, has a white throat and outlined, flat corolla lobes.

The flowering period extends from May to July.

Occurrence

This species is endemic to the Southern Alps , where it occurs in the Brenta Group , the Judicaria and the Vicentine Alps . It occurs montane to submontane at altitudes of 600 to 2500 meters, exclusively on calcareous subsoil in stony lawns and on rocks.
