action

A little bunny named Alec Azam (a play on the magic word Alakasam ) sits hungry in his cage in a stage dressing room and tries to get hold of a carrot lying nearby. Then the magician Presto DiGiotagione appears (a play on words with “prestidigitation” - in German “sleight of hand” or “sleight of hand”).

After looking at his watch, he takes his two magic hats (which are connected to each other; what is put into one comes out of the other) and the rabbit and hurries onto the stage to begin his performance. The rabbit is left on the edge of the stage. The hungry rabbit urgently asks for the carrot, but the magician refuses it. Thereupon the hare sabotages the performance of the magician without completely exposing him. The audience thinks the tricks are real and applauds. When the rabbit saves the magician's life with the magic hat at the end, the audience goes wild with enthusiasm. In the background you can see Waldorf and Statler from the Muppet Show on one of the balconies. The magician recognizes his mistake, gives the rabbit his carrot and lets him appear as an equal partner in the future.
