The Prins Hamlet was a ferry. Her sister ships were the Finnhansa and the Finnpartner with the Wärtsila building numbers 377 and 380 and the Bohème with the building number 1161.

history

Merivienti O / Y, Helsinki , placed the order to build the ship in 1963 to Wärtsilä-Koncernen A / B, Crichton-Vulcan , Turku / Abo. This company was renamed O / Y Wärtsilä A / B during the shipbuilding phase. The ship was hull number 1133. It was launched on December 17, 1965 and was delivered to A / B Bonnierföretagen, Halmstad , on May 14, 1966 . It was named Prins Hamlet .

The ship, which was later rebuilt several times, initially had a loading capacity of 300 cars or 26 trucks. It had a bow and a stern door; the hatches had a size of 6.7 × 2.9 meters. Right from the start, the ferry was equipped with a bow thruster propeller and a fin slack damping system. In 1967 additional passenger cabins were installed, which reduced the maximum number of passengers and vehicles loaded.

In 1969, Prins Hamlet was transferred to Fährexpress Hamburg GmbH. From May 29, 1969, she was used under the name of Prince Hamlet in the ferry service between Hamburg and Harwich . A mission every two days had been planned, alternating with another ship that was to serve the Bremerhaven- Harwich line on the other days . The Prins Hamlet had previously been in service on the Bremerhaven-Harwich line since 1966. She should continue to moor at the Columbuskaje in Bremerhaven instead of in Hamburg , if bad weather should endanger the timetable, as the journey from Hamburg over the Elbe was more time-consuming than the route from Bremerhaven. The Bremerhaven-Harwich ferry line had good experiences in the first two years of operation. From the outset, it was planned to acquire a new, faster ship for 1970. From 1970 a new Prince Hamlet was deployed on the Hamburg-Harwich route.

The original Prins Hamlet changed her home port and owner again in 1970. Under the name Roussillon , she now drove for the Cie. Generale Transmediterranéenne in Marseille . The next renovation took place in 1974. The ship could now carry 260 cars and 998 passengers and was measured with 7466 GRT . In 1978 the Soc. Nationale Maritime Corse-Mediterranée the ferry, 1980 the Dodekanissiaki Shipping Co. SA on Rhodes .

The ship has now been renamed Kamiros and rebuilt again. It then offered 1006 passengers with the same BRT number. Another renovation in 1986 led to an increase in capacity to 1037 passengers. Two years later, in 1988, the ship was rebuilt again. After that it offered space for 268 cars and 1290 passengers.

On March 12, 1994, the Kamiros ran aground off Rhodes in heavy weather. A week later, the ship could be recovered and set off under its own power to Piraeus , where it should be repaired. In the following year it passed to Dimitros Miras & Co., Valletta , and was named Thessaloniki . In 1996 it belonged to Thessaloniki Shipping Ltd. and was measured again.

In 1997 the Thessaloniki was launched in Eleusis . In 2000 it passed into the hands of the New Marathon Co. in Limassol and was now called Queen Calliope . In 2002 the ship was renamed again. It was named Opi . In the same year it was sold for demolition to Iska Metal Gemi Sokum AS in Aliağa , Turkey . It arrived there on June 5, 2002.
