Propham is an active ingredient in plant protection and belongs to the carbamate class .

history

Propham was developed by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI, now Zeneca ).

effect

Propham is a selective herbicide . It inhibits photosynthesis and the cell division of the plant, which is why the weeds die.

use

It is mainly used against weeds and grass weeds in beet, cabbage, spinach, lettuce and bean cultivation. It can also be used as a plant growth regulator.

Environmental aspects

Propham is toxic to aquatic organisms. The active ingredient can be broken down by hydrolytic cleavage of the ester bond and subsequent decomposition of the phenylcarbamic acid that is formed into aniline and carbon dioxide .

proof

Residues can be determined in plants and soils using the HPTLC method .

Admission status

In the EU and in Germany there are none so far pesticides admitted that this active ingredient contained.
