The Provincial away 261 (short: A261 / N261 ) is a road link in the Dutch province of North Brabant . The road is a connecting road between the A59 near Waalwijk and the A65 east of Tilburg .

The road was built as a two-lane road. In urban areas, the maximum speed is set at 80 km / h. The road between Loon op Zand and Tilburg-Noord has four lanes with a top speed of 120 km / h.

history

Originally the road was part of today's A261 / N261 motorway. On the 1958 national road map, the road between the cities of Tilburg and Waalwijk was part of the A62 motorway. This was to serve as a connection to the A27, which ran south of Gorinchem and Tilburg. In 1968 the planning of this connection to the A27 was canceled, so that the road was not realized.

For the part that was retained as a planned section in the road map from 1968, it was decided in 1969 that this should only be partially built. Thus only a small part of the planned motorway was actually built. In 1974 the motorway between Loon op Zand and Tilburg was opened to traffic. The last section of the motorway connection between the north and the center of Tilburg was no longer part of the route of the N261.

A route numbering plan was prepared in 1975 for the street names . It was planned that the current A261 and A62 would be merged. The plan was not carried out. The A261 was converted into the N261 and shortened. It received its current route.
