The Provincial away 278 is an east-west connection in the Dutch province of Limburg . It begins at the Belgian border crossing near Maastricht , in the crossing of the Belgian N79. The N278 belongs to the Maastricht Ring and meets the König-Willem-Alexander-Tunnel here , leads past the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten , on to Gulpen , Lemiers and Vaals to the German border. The federal highway 1 begins here . Sometimes it bears the name Maastrichterlaan .

LTM steam tram

In the early 20th century, a steam tram of the Limburgsche Tramweg Maatschappij ran almost parallel to the street between Vaals and Maastricht . In Cadier en Keer and between Margraten and Gulpen the line followed, between 1922 and 1938 a different route in connection with the gradients. Hardly anything of this route can be seen today. In Vaals there was a connection to line 12 of the Aachen tram .
