The Provinciale 280 off (short: N280) is a Dutch road in the province of Limburg , of Weert to the German border in Roermond runs where they in the Bundesautobahn 52 passes.

Announcement of the construction of the N280-Oost in 2007

Part of the road was originally built as Rijksweg 68 (A68). After the road became the province of the province in 2007, the road was renamed the A280 before being downgraded to the N280.

At the end of 2007 the new route between Roermond and the German border was opened. The new route is similar to a motorway with 2 × 2 lanes and is signposted as a motor road. The expansion results from a contract between the Netherlands and Germany in which both undertake to further link their motorway networks. The project was completed with the completion of the German A 52 on May 18, 2009.

The section near Baexem is also similar to a motorway , in order to enable a better flow of traffic there. Since there are always traffic jams in Roermond due to the many traffic lights, there are several plans for a bypass road or tunnel. There is also the possibility of widening the Maas bridge near Roermond.

At Weert , the N280 serves as a feeder to the A2 , but there are plans to convert some dangerous intersections into roundabouts.
