Attapeu ( Lao ແຂວງ ອັດ ຕະ ປື , pronunciation: [ kʰwɛːŋ âtːapɯː ]) is a province in southeast Laos . It borders Vietnam and Cambodia .

Attapeu is one of the most remote provinces of Laos. Reliable traffic and communication links with the rest of the country have only been in place since the mid-1990s. Compared to the rest of the population in Laos, Attapeu is relatively poor. Around 30% of the population lives in remote mountain regions, where food shortages are chronic. The remaining 70% live in the lowlands and river valleys. There is only one hospital in the province, the Attapeu Province Hospital . Many different ethnic minorities live in the province. The Xe Kong River , which is partly a border river to Cambodia, flows through the province .
