Putuerneq [ putuˈɜnːɜq ] (according to the old spelling Putuerneĸ , Danish Vigen ) is a desolate Greenlandic settlement in the Paamiut district in the communeqarfik Sermersooq .

location

Putuerneq is located in a bay called Kangerlua , which flows into the Neria fjord . The name comes from a tiny island of the same name in the southeast , while the Danish name refers to the bay. Neria is three and a half kilometers to the west. It is 54 km to the northwest to Paamiut.

history

Putuerneq was founded in 1925 as a fishing station, as the residents of Narsalik and Neria believed that this would be a good place to catch black halibut . In 1930 there were 25 people living in Putuerneq. It soon became apparent that the assumption was wrong and Putuerneq was abandoned. Later, cod discovered in the fjord and the station was put back into operation, even before 1940 but finally abandoned.
