Quetzal coins
1 quetzal - coin and banknote

The quetzal is the currency of Guatemala .

It is issued by the Banco de Guatemala , founded in 1946 , which is the country's central bank . The name comes from the national bird Quetzal .

Cash is available as

  • Coins of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 Centavos, 1 Quetzal
  • Banknotes of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Quetzales.

After the denominations of 0.50 and 1 quetzal were only issued as coins for a few years, the central bank has been putting 1 quetzal notes back into circulation since 2007 (with the same design, but made of polymer instead of paper). The 200 Quetzales note was introduced in 2010.
