The Rangunschlinger ( Combretum indicum , Syn .: Quisqualis indica ), in other languages English Chinese honeysuckle or Rangoon Creeper , Spanish quiscual , Filipino niyog-niyogan , Hindi Madhu Malti or Madhumalti , is a species of long filament ( Combretum ) in of the winged family (Combretaceae).

The Rangoon looper grows as a liana , i.e. as a woody creeper that can reach heights of 2.5 to 8 meters. The bark is hairy yellow. The 5 to 9 millimeters long stalked leaves have a 5 to 18 centimeters long and 2.5 to 7 centimeters wide elliptical leaf blade.

The hermaphrodite, fragrant flowers are five-fold. The petals are fused into a 5 to 9 centimeter long tube, their color changes from initially white to yellow to pink to red. There are ten stamens . The ovary is subordinate.

The 30 to 35 millimeters long fruit is elliptical, is initially red, turns greenish black or brown when ripe and has five protruding wings. The ripe fruit tastes like almonds.

Occurrence

The areas of Rangoon creeper are at altitudes below 1,500 meters in China , Bangladesh , Cambodia , India (including Andaman ), Indonesia , Laos , Malaysia , Myanmar , Nepal , Pakistan , Papua New Guinea , Singapore , Sri Lanka , Thailand , Vietnam , to the coast of East Africa , Indian Ocean Islands, Pacific Islands, and the Philippines . The Rangoon Meander is found in thickets, secondary forests , primary rainforests or along rivers. This species is now cultivated as an ornamental plant in all tropical areas .
