The Río Abujao is an approximately 190 km long right tributary of the Río Ucayali in eastern Peru in the province of Coronel Portillo in the Ucayali region . It shows a strongly meandering behavior with numerous narrow river loops along its entire course . The river is navigable by motorboat for a distance of 120 km to the confluence of the Río Motelo.
River course
The Río Abujao rises at about 280 m altitude on the watershed to the Rio Juruá, which runs further east . The headwaters of the Río Abujao is 100 km east-northeast of the regional capital Pucallpa in the Sierra del Divisor National Park on the border with Brazil . The Río Abujao initially flows 40 km south. At river kilometer 150 the Quebrada Amuya flows from the east into the Río Abujao. This then turns to the southwest. On the lower 115 kilometers, the Río Abujao runs mainly in a westerly direction. At river kilometer 50 the Río Sheshea (also Río Shesha ) meets the Río Abujao from the right. The Río Abujao reached a wide oxbow of the Ucayali River, formerly from further south running Río Tamaya flowed through. The Río Abujao flows through this oxbow lake for a distance of 29 kilometers and finally reaches the Río Ucayali almost 22 km southeast of Pucallpa.

In the north the catchment area borders on that of the Río Utiquinia , in the east on that of the Rio Juruá and in the south on that of the Río Tamaya.
