The Río Arapey (also: Río Arapey Grande ) is an important river in northwestern Uruguay .
description
The left tributary of the Río Uruguay , into whose Salto Grande reservoir it flows, rises in the Cuchilla de Haedo range of hills and crosses the Salto department on its 240 km long course . Most of it is surrounded by forest. The size of its catchment area is 11,410 km². The Arapey thermal baths are located on its banks about 90 km northwest of Salto .
Its approximately 100 tributaries include the right-hand tributary Río Arapey Chico and the rivers Arroyo Mataojo Chico and Arroyo del Tala, which flow from the left .
