Rômulo Borges Monteiro (born September 19, 1990 in Picos , Piauí ), Rômulo for short , is a Brazilian football player . The defensive midfielder and eight-time Brazilian international is under contract with Shijiazhuang Ever Bright FC .

Career

Rômulo played for CA Porto in his youth and moved to CR Vasco da Gama in January 2010 . On July 15, 2010 he made his debut in the Série A in a 0-0 win against Goiás EC . On November 5, 2010, he scored both goals in a 2-1 win against Gremio Barueri, his first goal in professional football. In 2011 he won the Brazilian Cup with the club .

For the 2012/13 season Rômulo moved to Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League . On his debut on August 18, 2012, he scored his first goal for Spartak in a 2-1 win over Rubin Kazan . On September 19, 2012, Rômulo played for the first and so far only time in the Champions League and scored the goal of the interim 2-1 lead in the 3-2 defeat at FC Barcelona .

In January 2017, Rômulo returned to Brazil and switched to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . With the club he won the Rio de Janeiro State Championship in 2017 and the Taça Guanabara in 2018. In Série A, Rômulo and Flamengo were runner-up in 2018 . In January 2019, he moved to Grêmio Porto Alegre on loan . The contract contained the option of purchasing the economic rights at the end of the loan deal, but was not drawn. After returning to Flamengo, Rômulo moved to Shijiazhuang Ever Bright FC in China in January 2020 .

National team

Rômulo made his debut on September 28, 2011 in the 2-0 win over Argentina in the Brazilian national team . He scored his first goal on June 9, 2012 in the 3: 4 defeat against the same opponent. In the summer of 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London with the U23 team and won the silver medal with them. His last international match so far Rômulo completed on September 10, 2012 in an 8-0 win in the friendly against China .
