Röderau is a right side of the Elbe situated district of the Saxon community Zeithain in the district of Meissen .

geography

The place lies in an old alluvial cone of the Elbe on a flood island. The federal highway 169 runs south of Röderau and connects Röderau with Riesa . The Zeithain – Elsterwerda , Riesa – Falkenberg and Leipzig – Dresden railway lines run through the town . Around 1900 Röderau was described as a lane village with a corridor and a corridor.

history

In 1185 the place was called Retherowe. Old field names such as the seascapes and formerly wet meadow terrain suggest that the place name derives from the word Redirouwe, which means something like place in the floodplain with reeds ( reed ). The place name was subjected to repeated changes so Röderau was in 1185 in Retherowe called 1288 Rederowe , 1308 Rethrowe , 1406 Rederow , 1501 Rederaw , 1552 Rederau and Roderaw in 1555th

In 1186 a manor is mentioned. The basic rule initially practiced the manor Frauenhain and the 17th century the manor Tiefenau . In 1406 Röderau belonged to the Großenhainer care and from 1696 was administered by the authority of Großenhain .

In October 1629 the church and the farms were damaged by a strong Elbe flood. In 1631, 61 residents died of the plague in the Zeithain church, to which Röderau belonged, and in 1632 this plague claimed 117 victims. In 1633 7 residents of Röderau died of this disease. A plague cemetery was established in Zeithain because the previous cemetery was too small for the many plague victims.

In 1651 there was another flood in which the Röderau church was hit. Back then the church was much closer to the Elbe than it is today. In December 1753 Röderau was hit by a flood again, so that for some time it was not possible to enter the church at the branch [Röderau] . In the years 1769, 1770, 1771, 1776 and 1777 the Elbe floods repeatedly. In the winter of 1784, the Röderau church collapsed during a so-called ice trip (ice jam). The church was then rebuilt at its current location and consecrated in 1786. In 1811 the Saxon regiment “Polenz-Dragoons” lay in Röderau and the surrounding villages in the quarter for a full 12 weeks, which had to be fed by the residents. In the same year there was a major fire in Röderau, in which goods no. 11, 12, 15, 16, 17 and the bell tower in the village burned down, and two bells melted. The bell tower was then added to the church. In 1833 and 1834 there were again fires in the village, so that only two estates and four houses were spared. These fires were started, but the arsonist could not be identified.

After the construction of the Elbe dam, the risk of flooding was significantly reduced. in 1840 Röderau consisted of twelve estates, seven houses, a windmill and a brick barn. From 1856 Röderau belonged to the Riesa court office and from 1875 to the administrative authority of Großenhain.

Until 1903 the Röderau church was a branch church of Zeithain before it became the parish church of the Röderau parish. In 1925, 2036 residents of Röderau were Evangelical Lutheran , 30 residents were Catholic and 89 residents belonged to other denominations. In 1938 Promnitz was incorporated into Röderau.

Saxons came after the Second World War in the Soviet zone of occupation and later the GDR . After the territorial reform in 1952 , Röderau was assigned to the Riesa district in the Dresden district .

On August 1, 1952, the LPG Type III unit Röderau was founded, which was joined by other LPGs. The LPG Rotes Banner Zeithain joined in 1960, LPG Elbflur Röderau in 1967 , LPG Immertreu Moritz in 1970 and LPG Grüne Aue Bobersen in 1971 . In 1970 Moritz was incorporated into Röderau.

After German reunification , Röderau came to the re-established Free State of Saxony. The following regional reforms in Saxony assigned Röderau to the district of Riesa-Großenhain in 1994 and to the district of Meißen in 2008. The municipality Röderau-Bobersen was created in 1994 through the merger of Röderau and Bobersen .

Röderau was hit hard in the flood of the century in 2002 . On August 16, 2002, the Elbe dam broke near Moritz and the Elbaue between Moritz, Promnitz and Röderau filled up within a short period of time. Röderau Süd was two meters under water for days and was later completely demolished. In June 2013 Röderau was hit again by the flood.

Röderau Church

A first church is said to have been built as early as 1186 and was then given a fief as a daughter church of Riesa. In 1738 a new building was built. On March 1, 1784, the church was torn from its foundations by the ice of the Elbe. The church tower was carried away to Lorenzkirch, the altar to Torgau.

The current church was then built at a new location from 1787 to 1789, initially without a tower. After the old bell tower burned down in 1812, a bell tower was added to the church in 1817. From 1903 to 1904 the church was completely rebuilt by church building officer Theodor Quentin . In March 1945, the church was badly hit by fire, and the church tower and roof were badly damaged. From 1987 to 1991 the exterior facade of the church was renovated.
