history

The Röthelbachklause is one of the earliest chasms mentioned in a document, the first mentioning dates back to 1392. Since the Middle Ages, the forests in the near and far surroundings of Bad Reichenhall have supplied the saltworks there in order to meet their immense need for fuel and timber. In the course of the renovation of the Bavarian salt pans, the Röthelbachklause was also rebuilt towards the end of the 18th century under Elector Karl Theodor .

In the years 1811/12 the Röthelbachklause delivered 400 fathoms of wood to the saltworks in Reichenhall.

The partially dilapidated hermitage was renovated in 1994 and 1995 and has been open to the public ever since.

Above the Röthelbachklause there was a Schwenzklause at the Dalsenalm , which acted as a pre-cave in front of the Röthelbachklause. Another hermitage was in Todsbach.

location

The Röthelbachklause is located directly on the Röthelbach almost 50 meters above the confluence of the Moosenbach , and 2.3 km (as the crow flies ) above the Baumgarten district of Schneizlreuth at an altitude of 945  m above sea level. NHN . Not far from the Klause is the Röthelbachalm with a service hut.
