Rüdiger von Sparneck (* around 1300; † between 1364 and 1368) was burgrave of Eger (Cheb) . He expanded the family property to include numerous estates, including the Schönbacher Ländchen and knights' seats.

Von Sparneck family

Rüdiger came from the Franconian noble family von Sparneck . The Sparneck community is now part of the Hof district in Upper Franconia . The ownership of the home country of the Sparnecker comprised roughly the same dimensions as the former Münchberg district , and there were also free float in the Egerland .

The name Rüdiger was the first name of a number of sparneckers and has led to confusion in previous family tree research. The more recent research after Elisabeth Jäger assumes that Rüdiger's father was another Rüdiger von Sparneck and not Arnold von Sparneck, as was the case with Alban von Dobenck . Rüdiger's mother is unknown. He was married to a woman from the Weida family . His children were called Erhard, Friedrich, Pabo and Hans zum Stein . By acquiring or building additional knight seats, he founded various Sparnecker lines. He was perhaps the most influential personality of this gender.

Biographical data

Offices

In 1336, Rüdiger von Sparneck was burgrave of Eger (Cheb) with his seat on the Waldstein . The Nuremberg burgrave Johann II pledged to him in 1341 Wunsiedel , Hohenberg and Schönbrunn . In 1359 he was named as a representative of the Margraves of Meissen .

Acquisitions of castles and lands

In 1343 he acquired Stein Castle for his son Hans and thus founded the line of Sparnecker zu Stein. He bought the Schönbacher Ländchen from the Waldsassen monastery under Abbot Franz Kübel in 1348 . Presumably he built the Uprode Castle around 1350 and also took care of a new building on the Waldstein (the so-called Red Castle , before there was only the Ostburg ). In 1364 he granted the city of Münchberg a modern town charter . Before 1368 the Gattendorf Castle was acquired for his son Erhard, who founded another Sparnecker line to Gattendorf and Hallerstein .

The Waldstein under the Bohemian crown

On May 2, 1356, he made a far-reaching decision: He placed the Waldstein and many of his other possessions under the Bohemian Crown . The burgraves of Nuremberg succeeded in continuously expanding their sphere of influence to the north in a centuries-long acquisition policy. Smaller empire-free families and robber barons came under the influence of the burgraves; it was the beginning of larger territorial states. As a Bohemian fiefdom, the Sparneck area remained untouched for a long time. On May 11, 1358, Rüdiger paid homage to Emperor Charles IV , who was also King of Bohemia .
