Schönbrunn is a parish village in the Fichtel Mountains . It is a district of the city of Wunsiedel and, together with the district of Furthammer, has approx. 1400 inhabitants. It was founded around 1200, initially as a small settlement around the castle. The oldest structure still in existence is the church, the oldest parts of which can be dated to around 1200. Schönbrunn has a few smaller businesses as well as several craft businesses. The number of farms is well below ten. On January 1, 1975, the community of Schönbrunn was incorporated into the district town of Wunsiedel. In 2006 the village won the district decision of the competition Our village has a future - our village should become more beautiful . In 2007 it won gold at the state level and a silver medal at the federal level in the same competition. Schönbrunn was on the Holenbrunn – Leupoldsdorf railway line ; the route was closed in 1993/1994 and is partly used for the Bavaria-Bohemia bridge cycle path .

Volunteer firefighter

The first written mention of the Schönbrunn volunteer fire brigade was in 1868. The purchase of a pressure sprayer for 375 marks is recorded. Various sources cite 1877 as the official founding year of the fire brigade. The fire brigade was divided into a board of directors (captain, adjutant, board member and cashier), climbing team with platoon leader, syringe team of the syringe house, security team, firemen, buglers, paramedics and paying members. The fire brigade belongs to inspection area 4 of the district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge and is a member of the district fire brigade association . The fire brigade currently has a LF 8/6 ( fire fighting group vehicle ) and a multi-purpose vehicle available as vehicles.
