Rəfael Ağayev (born March 4, 1985 in Sumqayit , Azerbaijan ) is a karateka . He has the 5th Dan . So far he has won five world and ten European titles in Kumite . In 2013 he became the World Games winner. His fighting style and speed have earned him the nicknames " Panther of the East " and " Diamond of the Karate World ".

Rəfael Ağayev started karate training at the age of seven. His coaches include Rafael Mammadov, Elnur Ibrahim and Fuzuli Musayev. At the moment he is being trained by Rahman Hatamov. At the age of nine he entered a major tournament in Russia for the first time and won gold. At the age of twelve he was appointed to the national team of Azerbaijan. In 2007 he studied at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports, Martial Arts Department. In 2008 he completed his military service. Since 2009 he has been teaching and training in Baku , in the central sports club of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan. Ağayev won a medal at world or European championships every year from 2003 to 2013. According to Karate Records , this puts him in second place in the world rankings behind Luca Valdesi . Due to a serious injury at the Baku Open 2014, he was unable to compete in the 2014 Karate World Cup . At the first European Games in Baku in 2015 , he won the gold medal in the +75 kg weight category in front of a home crowd. At the 2016 World Championships in Linz, Austria, he became world champion for the fifth time.
