history

In 1961, Volker Hahn , Fritz Leonhardt and Friedrich Wilhelm Bornscheuer founded the Recheninstitut im Bauwesen (RIB) in Baden-Württemberg.

During this time, the Technical University of Stuttgart established itself as a center for what was then known as EDP in construction. At the Aerospace Institute, civil engineer John Argyris introduced a finite element program ( FEM ). This inner-university development brought the RIB for the dimensioning of panels, panes and folded structures onto the market in a practice-optimized manner. RIB also developed the first program system “General Bar Structures” (PRAKSI), which is part of Ed. Züblin AG for processing pending calculations, such as B. of girder bridges was used. The first road construction programs were also developed in cooperation with IBM .

At the end of the 1960s, RIB began developing the first AVA system: the IDEAL batch system, designed for large computer systems. In 1970 the Joint Committee for Electronics in Building (GAEB) began work on the standard service book . With the RIB software, the standard service book could be edited according to the rules.

The IDEALOG program system for AVA was launched in 1979. IDEALOG was developed at the same time as the dialog-capable operating systems for mainframe systems, BS2000 and Time-Sharing Option (TSO), which were known at the time . In 1985 the first stage of an integrated data transfer of CAD data into the AVA from IDEALOG was realized. The IDEALOG modules for AVA and cost estimation were used under a general license for all federal and state public building administrations ( Isybau project ).

Within the working group for construction contract accounting (BAR), the requirements for software for construction companies were worked out in 1992 together with developers from RIB. With the technical support of large German construction groups such as Strabag , Bilfinger Berger , Züblin , Heilmann & Littmann , Dyckerhoff & Widmann , Walter Bau and Heidelberg Cement , RIB developed the complete ARRIBA solution for AVA, costing and construction management in 1994 . The RIB program systems will also be converted to Microsoft Windows technology.

In order to implement new solutions, RIB strengthened its own development team and founded an international R&D center in Guangzhou, China , in 2004 . The new RIB iTWO software for BIM ( Building Information Modeling ) 5D came onto the German market in 2009. In addition to the geometry data, iTWO also brings together the resources required for the construction project, such as building materials, machines or personnel, as well as dates and processes. In 2010, RIB offered the English and Chinese versions of iTWO.

RIB shares have been listed in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since February 2011 . It was admitted to the TecDAX on September 22, 2014, but had to leave it again on April 30, 2020. According to a ranking by the Munich Strategy Group from December 2016, RIB is in first place in the TOP 100 German medium- sized companies in terms of the selection criteria of sales growth and earnings ratio. In April 2017, the conversion into a European company (Societas Europaea / SE) was announced, which should take into account the company's international orientation.

In February 2020, the French Schneider Electric group announced a public takeover offer for RIB Software; With Schneider's offer of 29 euros per share, RIB is valued at 1.5 billion euros.
