Rachel Schmidt (violinist)

Rachel Schmidt (born 1975 in Jerusalem ) is a violinist and a member of the Berlin Philharmonic .

Life

In 1977 the family moved to Bremen , where Schmidt received her first violin lessons from his father. At the age of twelve she first appeared in a professional setting with the then Philharmonic State Orchestra Bremen (now: Bremen Philharmonic ).

Starting in 1988, she expanded her training as a young student at the music academies in Hamburg and Lübeck . This is followed by study stays in Saarbrücken with Valeri Klimow , at the Conservatory for Music and Theater in Bern with Igor Ozim and at the Berlin University of the Arts with Thomas Brandis .

She has been a violinist with the Berlin Philharmonic since 2001 . She also appears as a soloist and chamber musician with the Philharmonic Camerata and the Brahms Ensemble Berlin. She has worked in radio and CD productions, including for ORF, Deutsche Welle , Saarländischer Rundfunk and WDR . Since 2010 she has been part of the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin (second violin), with whom she recorded a CD with works by Antonín Dvořák in 2015 .
