history

The name is a compound of the name of the river Radau and the term Anger , which generally designates grass-covered land in common ownership and thus allows the interpretation "Landgut an der Radau". Radauanger was used as a field name as early as the 19th century , so that it is logical to derive the place name from it. Far older names for the area of the settlement are Wolfswiese and Pfingstanger , both documented for the 18th century.

The increasing spa tourism in Bad Harzburg gave rise to the desire to build a sewer system in the city from 1899. At that time, the wastewater was collected in septic tanks and picked up with pump trucks, which in the summer caused severe odor nuisance and increased complaints from bathers. In 1901, projection work began, in which the natural slope should be used for the sewer system and the black reckoning valley should be sprinkled with sewage. The sewer construction was completed on October 21, 1909, the sewage treatment plant was considered the most modern in Germany at the time and was awarded a gold medal at the Dresden Hygiene Exhibition.

After the Second World War , simple houses were built south of the sewage treatment plant. In 1964 the Radauanger is mentioned as a Radau-Anger .

In 1995, three Enercon E-40 wind turbines with a total nominal output of 1.5 MW were built on the field west of Radauanger as part of the “Bad Harzburg wind concept” . The investment volume amounted to approx. 1.5 million DM; in addition to the city of Bad Harzburg and its municipal utilities, a few dozen citizens were also involved in this investment.

Townscape

The Bad Harzburg wastewater treatment plant, which is located in the north and takes up the majority of the settlement area, is characteristic of the townscape. In addition to the municipal sewage treatment plant, there are also a number of buildings known as " Schlichthäuser " that are in municipal ownership: the two north buildings have been used by the Bad Harzburg fire brigade as training houses since 2008, while the three south buildings are used as emergency accommodation for the homeless. The remaining buildings are privately owned.
