The Altfelder Krug , usually simply referred to as Altfeld when it is mentioned, is a homestead in the area of the city of Bad Harzburg . Statistically it belongs to the Bettingerode district .

geography

The settlement is located on the northern edge of the Schimmerwald directly on the border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt , which runs directly across from the northern approach. Due to the former existence of the inner-German border , the Altfelder Krug is in a very isolated location, as the access from Abbenrode, only one kilometer to the north, is only possible with detours.

The place is traversed by the Blaubach, which flows one kilometer further north into the Ecker .

history

Surname

The name Altfeld as a field name could often be found in the area of the former county of Wernigerode . In this case, the name most likely refers to the desert area of Bintingerode , near which today's Altfelder Krug is located.

Local history

Around 1670, the Harzburg magistrate Johann Heinrich Uslar († 1672) built the "Blauer Krug" (1680), named after the Blaubach: At this time, today's northern field path formed an army road from Goslar to Halberstadt . After the builder's death, the jug fell to his relative Wiedemann zu Hasselfelde, from whose heir Duke Rudolf August bought it and added it to the territory of the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and thus to the power of the Harzburg Office , the forerunner of today's urban area. The jug was sold shortly afterwards to the baron Otto Grote von Schauen for 1,300 Reichstaler. It later served as a customs house on the north-eastern border (compare Lukaszoll ). The Altfelder Krug finally fell to the Harzburg district on December 12, 1894, when the area of Bettingerode was added to the community of Bettingerode as part of the construction of the Heudeber-Danstedt – Bad Harzburg railway line .

After the Second World War , the area around the Altfelder Krug was contaminated with the remains of a blown ammunition factory in the Schimmerwald: In 2011, fragments of bombs were discovered a few meters from the buildings. An NVA observation tower was located north of the Altfelder Krug .

Until recently, the Altfelder Krug was a rest home.
