Lochtum is a district of the district town of Goslar in the district of Goslar in Lower Saxony .

Lochtum is the easternmost district of the city of Goslar and 16 km from it on the Shamlah on the eastern border of Lower Saxony . Lochtum has a convenient location on the federal motorway 36 and A 369 .

Lochtum

Lochtum was first mentioned in a document in 1066.

Archbishop Adalbert I of Bremen , educator of the young German King Heinrich IV and thus de facto regent of the empire, had to give way temporarily to his adversary, Archbishop Anno of Cologne , at the Diet of Tribur in 1066 . He temporarily retired to his estate in Lochtum. Here he probably prayed in the Romanesque Lady Chapel, which was demolished in the 1930s.

Four things testify to this sacred building:

the hour bell in the Goslar City Museum
the little bell in the Lochtum coat of arms

This coat of arms consists of the blue escutcheon with a golden lily, the stem of which merges into the said golden bell. The lily, in turn, comes from the seal of Heinrich von Lochtum (then Henricus de Locten) on a document recorded in the Goslar document book from 1397. This Henricus probably named himself after the place he came from or because he belonged to a local noble family. On March 19, 1965 , the then council of the municipality of Lochtum chose the color of the coat of arms of the Lords of König, which is documented in Lochtum from 1482 to 1866.

Lütgen-Lochtum / Klein Lochtum

The Vorwerk Lütgen-Lochtum (Klein Lochtum) was north in the direction of Vienenburg. It was founded around 1096, fell desolate in 1641 and belonged to the Ilsenburg Monastery.

The village church was demolished around 1820 at the instigation of the then superintendent Haarmann, until 1815 the deceased from Lochtum were buried there.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1972, Lochtum was incorporated into the city of Vienenburg.
