Rafael Jácome de Andrade

Rafael Jácome Lopes de Andrade (born October 1, 1851 in Lisbon , Portugal , † July 25, 1900 in Santa Maria e São Miguel , Sintra district ) was a Portuguese naval officer and colonial administrator.

Andrade was the son of Rafael José Lopes de Andrade and married to Josefa Sanchez y Lorda . He had a son: Manuel Lopes de Andrade .

Career

At the age of 20 Andrade joined the Navy, where he later commanded the gunboat Rio Lima on a voyage from Macau to Timor .

From 1888 to 1889 Andrade was governor of the Portuguese Timor colony . During this time he continued the expansion of the capital Dili , connected the suburbs with roads, provided a water supply network and built the lighthouse at the port .

In 1891 Andrade became Governor General of Portuguese East Africa ( Mozambique ) and held the office until 1893. Finally, he held the post of governor of Portuguese India twice . From 1893 to 1894 and from 1895 to 1896.
