Rainer Daehnhardt

Rainer Daehnhardt (born December 7, 1941 in Vienna ) is a German-Portuguese historian, weapons collector and non-fiction author .

Life

Origin, youth and education

Some of his ancestors came to Portugal as early as 1706. His grandmother Annemarie geb. Wimmer came from a line from Sankt Annaberg in Lower Silesia and was born in Belas in 1889 . The grandfather Heinrich Daehnhardt (1876–1944) was born in Lisbon , was a professional diplomat and was seriously injured in the battle of Verdun during the First World War . His father Claus-Heinrich Daehnhardt (1913–1997) was born in the German embassy in Constantinople , was drafted as a German foreigner for military service during World War II , fought in the Caucasus and was taken prisoner by the Soviets . He managed to escape, reported for duty, was posted to the Western Front and was taken prisoner by the Americans in France.

Rainer Daehnhard came with his mother from Vienna first to Saxony, then to Hesse and attended the Annie Hamann School in Frankfurt am Main until March 20, 1953 . After 1957 the family emigrated to Belas . He studied in Germany and Portugal and wrote his thesis The Study of the Development of Man through the Weapon and its Use (Estudo da evolução do Homen atraves da arma e suza utilização).

Act

Rainer Daehnhard is President of the Portuguese Society for Ancient Weapons (Sociedade Portuguesa de Armas Antigas) and takes part in international congresses. He is an honorary member of the American Society of Arms Collectors (ASAC), a member of the Arms & Armor Society in London and the Society for Historical Arms and Costume Studies in Berlin. In his collection there are around 500,000 historical hand weapons , horse harness , armor , nautical instruments , nautical charts , coins , manuscripts etc. He wrote books and the like. a. About King Sebastian , the explorer, sailor and viceroy of India Vasco da Gama , the sailor and discoverer of the Strait of Magellan Ferdinand Magellan , who began the first circumnavigation , the Temple Order , Wilhelm Gustloff and the Portuguese horse breed Lusitano .
