Rajouri (also Rajauri ; Hindi राजौरी ) is a city ( Municipal Committee ) in the far west of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
It forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . In the 2011 census, the population was 29,486. In 2001 it was still at 20,874. 57% Hindus and 37% Muslims live in the city of Rajouri .
Rajouri is located 90 km northwest of the city of Jammu at an altitude of 915 m on the banks of the Nowshera Tawi , a tributary of the Chanab . The city and the surrounding area are separated from the rest of Jammu and Kashmir by the Pir Panjal mountain range to the north and northeast and the Siwaliks to the south. A highway, the Punch Highway , leads to Jammu in the south. Rajouri is connected to the northern district of Punch via the Mughal Road and the Punch Highway . Rajouri owns an airfield. The Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University campus is 4 km northeast of the city center.
