Ralf Rothkegel (born May 20, 1941 in Duisburg ) is a German lawyer and jazz musician ( clarinet , saxophone ). From 1990 to 2006 he worked as a federal judge at the Federal Administrative Court . He is known for numerous publications on social welfare and asylum law .

Live and act

Rothkegel studied law in Cologne and Saarbrücken and received his doctorate in 1973 from the University of Saarland . From 1974 he was a judge at various administrative courts before he became a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court in 1986. Between 1990 and 2006 he was a judge at the Federal Administrative Court. There he was a member of the Fifth Audit Senate, which deals with youth, welfare and social welfare law as well as training funding.

In addition to his work in the judiciary, he was active as a jazz musician. He has been playing the clarinet since 1960, first as a Dixieland musician with the Jazz Preachers in Cologne, then in Saarbrücken with the Kantstreet Jazz Workmen . In 1972 he switched to modern jazz as a saxophonist and performed with Heiner Franz , Claus, Thomas and Dizzy Krisch in the group brainstream . In 1980 a hard bop- oriented band was founded with Lothar Scharf , Klaus Werner Pusch , Claus Krisch and Dieter Ilg , but also collaborations with Siegfried Kessler , Fritz Maldener , Adelhard Roidinger , Herbert Joos , Saheb Sarbib and the trio of Armin Heitz . Since 1992 he has been a permanent member of the Berlin Umbrella Jazzmen , with whom he presented himself at the International Dixieland Festival Dresden in 1995 and 2005 as well as The Judge and His Chicago Gang . He has also performed with Wolfgang Köhler since 1991 , and since 1995 in a trio with Pepe Berns . He was also one of the Hohenheim All Stars with Dusko Goykovich , Thilo Wagner , Günter Lenz and Gregor Beck . He also worked on Peter Herbolzheimer's Gray Hear Collection and formed a duo with Larry Porter .
