Ralf Wosik

Ralf Wosik (born  April 17, 1958 in Hamm - Bockum-Hövel ) is a former German table tennis player . He achieved many successes both with his team Borussia Düsseldorf and in singles and doubles. He played 102 international matches for the German Table Tennis Association .

Career

Ralf Wosik left school in 1975 after completing secondary school in order to prepare for a professional career in a table tennis center with Hajo Nolten , supported by the DTTB . This was the first attempt in Germany to professionally promote young, talented young players and was initiated by the former Düsseldorf player and later President of the German Table Tennis Association, Hans Wilhelm Gäb .

Material and style of play

Ralf Wosik was one of the first German aggressive-offensive spin players. He usually stayed relatively close to the record and tried to dictate the game. He was considered particularly strong against defenders. He first played Joola Redspot with 2 times Stratos 2.5 mm, later Joola Extreme with 2 times Clipper 2.5 mm.

Greatest successes

In 1975 Wosik was in Zagreb together with Hans-Joachim Nolten Junior Vice European Champion in doubles. On February 24, 1976, he was called up for an international match for the first time: In Hamburg he lost both singles to China. His greatest successes are nine team championships with his club PSV-Borussia (later Borussia Düsseldorf). In the men's singles he reached the final four times and the semifinals of the German championship three times - but could never prevail against Georg Böhm . In the national rankings, he was ranked first in 1982.

From 1979 to 1989 he took part in six world championships and since 1978 in seven European championships . For the national team, he completed 102 international matches before stepping down in 1990.

Private

Professionally, Ralf Wosik is managing director of a mail order company with table tennis articles. He is married to table tennis player Gudrun Richter, a sister of Ruth Richter, the wife of Hanno Deutz , and has two children (daughter Janina * 1983, son Steffen * 1985). His younger brother Torben Wosik is also a well-known German table tennis player, as is his sister Nadja (* 1966). Daughter Janina is married to Damien Éloi .
