Ralph Walker Nickless (born May 28, 1947 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Sioux City .

Life

Nickless is one of ten children of R. Walker Nickless and E. Margaret McGovern Nickless. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Denver on August 4, 1973 . After many years of activity there, he was responsible for the clergy and seminarians from 1988 as vicar before he became vicar general of the Archdiocese of Denver in 1993 . Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) in 1996 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Sioux City . on November 10, 2005. He was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Dubuque , Jerome George Hanus OSB , on January 20, 2006; Co- consecrators were Charles Joseph Chaput OFMCap , Archbishop of Denver, and Thomas Joseph Tobin , Bishop of Providence . In August 2009, Nickless voiced his opposition to the Obama Care health care reform in a column because it provided for a relaxation of abortion law.
