He was also able to win the European Cup downhill in 2013 and was named Young Athlete of the Year 2012 by Schweizer Sporthilfe. His best placement in the World Cup was 10th in the downhill run from Santa Caterina on December 28, 2014.

biography

Ralph Weber comes from Gossau and competed in ski races at an early age. At the Grand Prix Migros Final, which is the most important children's ski race in Switzerland up to the age of 15, he came second once. He also won the international children's ski race in Wangs-Pizol twice. From 2006 he took part in various interregional as well as national competitions, where he was able to secure the silver medal in the downhill and the bronze medal in the combination at the Swiss championships in his age group in the 2007/08 season. At that time he attended the Glarnerland sports school in Netstal and in 2008 went on to the sports high school in Davos , where he completed his Matura at the end of June 2013.

In May 2010 Weber was accepted into the C-squad of Swiss-Ski with start number 95 through successes such as winning the junior Swiss championship in an FIS downhill run in Veysonnaz. In the 2010/11 season he finished at the Junior World Championship with 9th place in the downhill and 17th place in the Super-G. In the following season, on March 8, 2012, he finished on the podium for the first time in a European Cup downhill run and came second in Sarntal / Reinswald . At the Junior World Championship in Roccaraso , he finished second in the downhill on the first day of competition, and one day later, on March 3, 2012, he won the Junior World Championship in Super-G. With this title, he got his first starting place in the World Cup . On March 15, 2012 he celebrated his World Cup debut at the World Cup final in Schladming , where he finished 22nd in the Super-G. In the same season, Weber also won the runner-up Swiss championship title among the elite in the super combined. After this season he was promoted from the C to the B squad of Swiss-Ski .

On January 10, 2013 Weber celebrated his first European Cup victory in the downhill from Wengen . With two more podium places he secured the win of the downhill classification with a lead of 148 points over the second placed. In April 2013 he was honored by the Swiss Sports Aid Foundation as Young Athlete of the Year, which is the most important award in young athletes in Switzerland. He had to break off the 2013/2014 season due to an injury, as he fell on February 26, 2014 at the Junior World Championships and suffered a dislocation of the elbow joint and bruises. Nevertheless, he still finished the downhill classification in 5th place, with two races still on the program. He caused a stir this season on the shortened Lauberhorn downhill run in Wengen: As the second youngest driver, he was in 18th place in the last interim time, but then retired in the finish S. Weber remained without World Cup points this season.

On December 28, 2014 Weber won his first World Cup points when he surprisingly finished 10th in the downhill run from Santa Caterina Valfurva . He achieved this result on the second attempt, because he was waved off after around 50 seconds during his first drive and had to be driven up again to the start. A few weeks later, on February 22nd, 2015 in Saalbach, when he came in 25th, he picked up his first World Cup points in the Super-G. In the World Cup he has made it into the top 15 a total of six times.
