Ramón Núñez (born November 14, 1985 in Tegucigalpa , Honduras ) is a Honduran football player and plays in midfield . He is currently active for LD Alajuelense .

Adolescent years

Núñez grew up in the United States after coming to the United States on his father's visa in the early 1990s. He attended WT White High School in Dallas , Texas . After a season at Southern Methodist University , where he was named Missouri Valley Conference freshman of the year , Dallas Burn drafted him sixth in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft .

Professional career

In his first year with the Dallas Burn (later: FC Dallas ) he hardly played. He came up with a total of 107 minutes in eight games. In his second season he was able to secure a place in the starting line-up, scoring five goals and giving three assists . After losing his starting place, Núñez was given up to CD Chivas USA in August 2007 in exchange for a mission-dependent pick at the MLS SuperDraft 2009 . He could not convince at Chivas and was put on the waiver list at the end of the season.

Shortly thereafter, Núñez moved to Honduras to CD Olimpia , where he came to 34 games and scored three goals. He was a key player in the Olimpia team. He played mainly in attacking midfield , where he acted as a playmaker and prepared numerous goals. Because of his good form in the club and in the national team , Núñez was awarded the Clausura 2009 for half a year to Puebla FC in the Mexican Primera División and scored five goals in 16 league games there. At Apertura 2009 he moved to the Mexican league competitor CD Cruz Azul .

After a temporary return to CD Olimpia , Ramón Núñez moved in 2010 to the English second division promoted Leeds United . From there, he was loaned to Scunthorpe United in 2011 , before returning to FC Dallas in 2013. After his contract expired, he was without a club for a year before joining the Costa Rican club LD Alajuelense in 2014 .

National team

Núñez took part with the U-20 selection Honduras in the Junior World Cup 2005 in the Netherlands. In October 2006, he was called up for the first time in the Honduran senior team, but made his international debut on September 9, 2007 when he came on in a game against Costa Rica .

In March 2008 Núñez took part with the Honduran Olympic team at the CONCACAF qualification tournament for the 2008 Olympic Games in China and acted as a regular player in the left midfield when the tournament was won. At the final tournament in China, the midfielder was used in all three group games, but retired with his team after three defeats without points and goalless.

National coach Reinaldo Rueda regularly called Núñez for World Cup qualifying matches in 2008 and 2009 , and during the successful qualification he made a total of 14 appearances in which he scored three goals.
