Raska ( Ukrainian and Russian Раска , Polish Raska ) is a village in the west of the Ukrainian Oblast of Kiev with about 150 inhabitants (2006).

history

The village was almost certainly founded by settlers from the Kingdom of Poland in the early 18th century . Since the area around Kiev was only sparsely populated at the time, Polish aristocrats encouraged farmers from central Poland to settle there, whereupon several villages were founded in what is now Borodjanka Rajon . In 1900 there were 30 farmsteads in Raska with a total of 238 inhabitants and by 1924 the village had grown to 50 farmsteads with a total of 320 inhabitants. During the German occupation in the German-Soviet War , all 400 villagers (other sources according to more than 600 people) were shot and the village was completely burned down in a punitive action by the Germans on April 11, 1943.

Geographical location

Raska is located in the northwest of Borodjanka Rajon on the border with Zhytomyr Oblast . The M 07 trunk road runs not far south of the village , via which the Borodjanka district center can be reached after about 35 km in a south-easterly direction.

Administratively, Raska belongs to the municipality of the urban-type Piskivka settlement , which is 7 km south of the village.
