The Rauhhorn (also just Rauhorn ) is a 2240 m (also 2241 m ) high mountain in the Allgäu Alps , on the border between Germany and Austria . It is located southwest of the Gaishorn and south of the Geiseck . The Kugelhorn lies in the further south of the Rauhhornzug .
The Rauhhorn is only recommended to experienced mountaineers from both the north and south sides, despite the presence of safety ropes. Both climbs require surefootedness and climbing agility and run over the strongly jagged rock ridge and steeply sloping flanks to the east and west. The northeast face, which was climbed for the first time in 1962, is a demanding climbing route in the V and VI. Level of difficulty. The route was repeated six times in the year of the first ascent and was forgotten from 1970.
Ski mountaineers like to visit the mountain in winter. There are beautiful but challenging runs to the northwest to the Willersalpe and to the east to the Vilsalpsee . However, the summit itself is rarely accessed in winter. The tour usually ends at the beginning of the rocky north ridge.
