Raul Midón (born March 14, 1966 ) is an American singer-songwriter from New York . Midón is known for his virtuoso guitar playing and his a cappella elements, which he includes in his songs.

Life

The blind musician was born in New Mexico . His parents are Argentine and Afro-American . Due to insufficient protection of the eyes in an incubator, he and his brother became blind shortly after birth. When he was four years old, his father taught him to play the drums . Midón later attended a school for the blind and then an elite academy in Santa Fe . After that he was enrolled at the University of Miami .

Musical career

Midón began his musical career as a background singer for various well-known artists, including Shakira , Jennifer Lopez , Christina Aguilera , Ricky Martin , Julio Iglesias and José Feliciano . Midón started a solo career in 2002 and worked with jazz greats such as Paquito D'Rivera , Dave Valentin , Dave Samuels , Herbie Hancock , Marcus Miller and Claudio Roditi .

In 2005 his first solo album State of Mind was released , which received consistently good reviews. Stevie Wonder also made a guest contribution to this album . In 2007 another studio album was released with the title A World Within a World , from which the single Pick Somebody Up was released.
