Raymond Lefèvre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raymond Lefevre (born November 20, 1929 in Calais , France, † June 27, 2008 ), also Raymond Lefevre , was a French orchestra conductor and composer. In the 1960s, he was one of the leading easy-listening artists in France , alongside Paul Mauriat and Franck Pourcel .

Live and act

Lefèvre began his musical career as a jazz pianist in a trio with Hubert Rostaing and Bobby Jaspar . He also played piano in the orchestra of his colleagues and later competitors Franck Pourcel and Paul Mauriat. In 1956 he released a first album on Barclay. A little later he also recorded several albums with the singer Dalida . With a conservatory degree in piano and flute, Lefèvre became known for numerous film scores for films by Louis de Funès between 1964 and 1982. He also made a name for himself as an orchestra conductor. He himself played mostly Easy Listening , but also instrumental versions of film themes and modernized classical melodies.

Like his colleague Paul Mauriat, Lefèvre also managed to land hits in the USA. As early as 1958, he was number 30 on the charts with the Gilbert Bécaud song The Day the Rains Came . The distance to his second and last single success was unusually long: It wasn't until 1968 that Soul Coaxing , in the original Âme câline by Michel Polnareff , made it to number 37 on the pop and number four on the easy listening charts. In the latter he was able to place again in 1968 when La, La, La , an adaptation of the Eurovision winner of the same year , climbed to 23rd place. In Great Britain, Soul Coaxing was also represented in the charts with a top position at number 46.

In 1999, his recording of La marche des gendarmes from the Louis de Funès film of the same name hit the French singles charts.

Lefèvre was the orchestra leader four times at the Eurovision Song Contest .

He was married and the father of two children.
