Recht is a town in the German-speaking Community of Belgium and part of the municipality of Sankt Vith . Law has 1,336 inhabitants in the local community (information as of December 31, 2015).
geography
Right is the furthest west of the municipality of St. Vith and the entire canton. The village is relatively isolated in a sparsely populated region. The surrounding area is characterized by agricultural grassland and in the wider area by extensive forests. The Rechterbach , a left tributary of the Amel , flows west of the town center in a northerly direction. About two and a half kilometers east of the town center is the Kaiserbaracke industrial park , right at the exit of Autobahn 27 . On the right was the Vielsalm – Born railway line , which ended in 1944.
history
The name of the village was first mentioned in 678. From the 14th century, Recht formed its own dairy within the St. Vith rule.
Right was shaped by the processing of blue stone from the 17th to the beginning of the 20th century. The stonemasons ensured an economic boom in the village. In the process, Recht gained national recognition through the Rechter Blaustein . This bluish slate was first mined there in surface mining and from 1880 in underground mining. Before the First World War , the mine on the south-eastern outskirts was exhausted and closed. Since May 18, 2007 it has been open again as a visitor mine.
Right was an independent municipality until the Belgian municipal reform in 1977, which also included the eastern village of Born , which is now part of Amel.
Attractions
Among the protected cultural monuments in law include the historic sheep bridge over the legal Erbach, erected around 1840 Backhaus and the Lady Chapel from the 18th century. The Sankt Adelgund Church was built in 1925 and contains historical elements of a chapel mentioned as early as 1496; its quarry stone tower with onion-shaped spire dates from 1771.
