Red Buttons (* 5. February 1919 in New York City as Aaron Chwatt ; † 13. July 2006 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor .

Live and act

Buttons was best known as a comedian. In addition, he also wrote songs very successfully and performed as a singer in his live programs. Before World War II , he worked as a solo entertainer in clubs before becoming a soldier. On his return from the war he played theater on Broadway , mostly in comic roles. In 1952 he received his own television show, which became a stepping stone to Hollywood for him. In 1958 he received an Oscar for his supporting role in Sayonara alongside Marlon Brando . Outside of his film career, he was a welcome guest in Las Vegas hotel clubs . In his films he was mainly seen in comical supporting roles.

Red Buttons died on July 13, 2006 at the age of 87 of complications from a vascular disease.
