history

The castle Reicheneck is first documented in 1238 as a possession of the powerful Reichsministerialen Ulrich of Koenigstein testified. From 1395 Reicheneck became the property of the Lords of Absberg. From here he exercised on behalf of the Staufer Vogteirechte, which extended over the extensive property of the bishopric of Bamberg and the provost of the monastery of Bergen in the Hersbrucker Land. After the imperial city of Nuremberg was incorporated into the newly formed Kingdom of Bavaria , the castle was gradually demolished by order of the royal Bavarian rent office in Hersbruck. Large parts of the kennels and the inner castle have been preserved to this day.
