building

The management was based in the management building at Heilbronner Strasse 7, which was completed in 1914 and was designed by the architect Martin Mayer (1878–1925). The new building was built in connection with the relocation of Stuttgart Central Station to its current location. In 2003 and 2004 the building served as an alternative quarter for parts of the Stuttgart city administration while the town hall was being renovated. Subsequently, clubs and offices were accommodated in the building in the form of temporary use . This ended at the end of 2011.

Tunneling in the course of Stuttgart21

The former railway management, set on pillars (December 2017)

In the course of the construction of the new Stuttgart main station (as part of Stuttgart 21 ), the management building was undermined from 2017 and placed on a 1.3 m thick concrete slab. This in turn rests on some supports between which the construction machinery and vehicles can maneuver. In 2020 the railroad management should be back on solid ground and be handed over to a new owner. Originally, the railway had aimed to demolish and rebuild the building built between 1911 and 1912. However, the city of Stuttgart insisted on preservation. As part of the project, the rear wing of the building was demolished in 2012.

future

After the work on Stuttgart21 has been completed, the area around the management building is to be fundamentally reorganized. To this end, the city of Stuttgart held an urban planning ideas competition in 2018, in which a design by KSP Jürgen Engel Architects prevailed. The development plan required for this will not come into force before 2022.
