According to the vernacular term om Reef (= on the ring), the name would indicate a slight curve in the former Bocker Gasse (now Laurentiusstraße) in the area of the former Reiffer Gut farm . It is possible that frost is derived from the Middle High German rif (= frozen dew) and describes an exposed location that promotes the formation of dew and frost.
